Alston Wilkes Veterans Home, directed by Fred Lamphere is requesting Club members to bring un-opened hotel toilet amenities, (those lotions, soaps, etc.) to Club lunch. They will be passed on to these men committed to turning their life around. If you have clothing or other goods to donate to this cause, call Fred at 803-748-7489 or FredLamphere@sc.rr.com. He will arrange pickup at your home.

    Dear fellow Sertomans,

I think we can all breathe a huge sigh of relief with the Mardi Gras auction over now, and also give yourselves a good pat on the back for a job well done! It looks like the 2008 Mardi Gras was our most successful yet with close to $8,000 in net revenues.  I know a lot of hard work and planning went into this project and I appreciate Pat Blackwell and Ann Pauley spearheading it, as usual. I also appreciate all of the helping hands that were there that night to ensure that things went smoothly from the moment our guests walked through the door until the time they checked out with their items.  Once again, a big thanks to everyone who helped and I look forward to seeing how we improve even more next year.

Please keep in mind the date of April 16th, which is the date for our next membership social.  Steven Langer has been working hard and has confirmed our speaker for the night as Mac Bennett, President and CEO of the United Way of the Midlands. He will undoubtedly deliver a great speech and the Summit Club, as always, will provide a great setting and great menu for our guests.  So start thinking now about who you would like to invite to be a member of our club.  Steven and I will be getting invitations printed soon and will get those to you so you can invite several good prospects.  We will have more information as the date gets closer!

Finally, please remember to keep an eye open for any good lunch speakers. As always, we are in need of some speakers to fill spots in the upcoming months. If you have someone in mind, please send that person's contact information to Pat Mason and he will schedule accordingly.

Thanks for all that you do for our club,

    Whitney

    Dear fellow Sertomans,

It is just a little over a week until our 8th annual Mardi Gras silent auction party which will be held Saturday February 9th, 2008 at the Summit Club!  For all of you new members: I truly hope you can attend and lend a helping hand during the festivities.  This is always a really fun event where we get to dress up and enjoy good food, fellowship and entertainment, all while raising money for a great cause.  The party will kick off at 7pm and go until 11pm.  Bring friends, family, loved ones and co-workers.  If you have already sold some tickets, please try to email Ann Pauley with the names, addresses and phone numbers of your guests so we can be a little more organized.  We really need to make this event the biggest and best it has ever been, especially since Sportsarama was cancelled this year and we need to make up for the lost revenue.

Our first lunch meeting in February we will have two special presentations, so I hope all of you can be there.  First, we will be presenting Palmetto State Base Camp their check from Richland Sertoma from our golf tournament proceeds.  Also, we will be presenting the 2007-2008 Service to Mankind Award to our recipient, George Cauthen.  Please make every effort to attend!

Also keep in mind the date of April 16th 2008, which we have slated for our next membership social.  Be thinking of potential members that you would like to invite.  Steven Langer and I will be working diligently to put this together and will get more information to you on this over the next month.

Thanks for all you do for our club.

    Dear fellow Sertomans,

It is the beginning of a new year and I hope this letter finds each of you doing well and recovering from the holiday season.  Please join me in congratulating Steve Etheredge, our Sertoman of the Year! He was rightfully honored at our January 3rd lunch meeting.  Thanks, Steve, for all that you have done, and continue to do, for our club.  We couldn’t do it without you!

We are now halfway through our fiscal year and the main focus we will have for the next month is on our annual Mardi Gras silent auction party which will take place on Saturday February 9th, 2008 at the Summit Club.  This is one of our largest fund raising events and I sincerely hope all of you can be there and bring some friends as well!  We have already secured some great auction items, but as always, we are in need of more.  These items can be anything from hotel stays to restaurant gift certificates to big screen TVs’ to a plane ride over Columbia.  The more items we have, the better our auction will be.  Remember it is crunch time so please do your best to secure some great items!

Also, we will need many helping hands that night to make sure things run smoothly.  From gathering bid sheets once the auctions end to getting the items in the properly numbered bag to getting our customers checked out in a timely fashion, there is much to be done and we’ll need as much help as we can get behind the scenes to accomplish this and make it seamless for our guests.  Ann Pauley and Pat Blackwell may be asking you to help with certain functions, so please do your best to be there and contribute!  This is shaping up to be a really nice event, so spread the word.  A flier can also be downloaded from the club website at www.richlandsertomaclub.org.

Lastly, we will have our January board meeting at the Summit Club on Tuesday January 8th at 6pm, and as always, these meetings are open to the whole club.  We hope to see you up there Tuesday night.

Thanks for all you do for our club.

    Whitney E. Woolfolk
